1. Academic Ties with the Occupation
ATOC-ReP: On June 20, 2023, Kay College in Beersheba organized The conference on strengthening the work of mentors in education by the Promentors project , an international project under the European Union’s Erasmus programme, with the participation of the University of Bucharest, Romania, along with nine Israeli faculties of education and three other European universities: the University of Exeter, England, the John Paul II Catholic University in Lublin, Poland, and the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.

ATOC-ReP : In January 2024, an investigation by the University Observer revealed financial ties between University College Dublin ( UCD ) and Israeli universities, primarily through EU-funded joint research projects, despite calls for a full academic boycott of Israel. Data from the Community-Based Research and Development Information Service ( CORDIS ) network revealed that 10 of the 43 research projects UCD has been awarded alongside Israeli institutions are still active. These include two ongoing research projects with Tel Aviv University costing €549,368.64 and €279,375.00 respectively, and a research project with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) costing UCD €274,684.32. In addition, UCD is participating in a €49,911,564.15 research project with the Tel Aviv Foundation for the Development of Medical Research Infrastructure and Health Services, with UCD’s contribution to this project amounting to €1,484,050.00.

ATOC-SoF : Starting in 2017, The University of Bucharest in Romania has allocated 175 places for undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students from Romania abroad. The list of countries covered by the program includes Israel.
ATOC-MaP : Between March 30 and April 6, 2022, the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work of the University of Bucharest in Romania held a Selection of faculty members for teaching or professional training in the Erasmus program at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. This process aims to select the best teaching staff to participate in the Erasmus academic exchange program.

PoC-ReG : Since 2001, Romano-Arabica is an international, peer-reviewed, annual academic journal published by the Centre for Arabic Studies, University of Bucharest. The journal deals with the study of Arabic language (classical and dialects), Arabic literature (classical and modern), Islamic thought and societies, and the interaction between Arab civilization and other civilizations. Romano-Arabica is published in collaboration with a group of academics in the field of Arabic and Islamic studies from prestigious academic institutions around the world, including Israel.

PoC-HeV : From October 30 to November 3, 2017, the University of Bucharest organized the “ Week of Culture The Israeli Culture Week is organized in partnership with the Embassy of the State of Israel in Bucharest and the State Jewish Theater. The events include Hebrew language workshops, film screenings, conferences, and Israeli music. The Israeli Culture Week is coordinated by Professor Dr. Maddy Aksenchuk, Director of the Department of Hungarian, Jewish and Romani Studies at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest.

PoC-HeV : In 2014, The University of Bucharest has published a book entitled: “Romania, Israel, France: Jewish Paths”, a book celebrating the work of Professor Karol Iancu and containing articles by various authors of various nationalities on the history and studies of Jewish culture in different geographical areas. The book is divided into four sections: the first focuses on the history and mentality of the Jews, the second on the study of religions, the third on Romanian-Jewish history, and the fourth on Jewish history in Romania and Bessarabia.

PoC-HeV : In 2008, the University of Bucharest issued A book entitled: “Bedouin Elements in the History of Ancient Israel,” by Alexandru Mihael. The book deals with the role of the Bedouin in the history of ancient Israel, highlighting the paradox that prompted the author to study this subject: how the Bedouin, who were of humble status, formed an integral part of a people chosen by God. The author points out that the origins of the Jewish and Christian faith are partly due to elements brought by the Bedouins, whether obvious or not.

PoC-HeV : From November 4 to 6, 2024, the B’nai B’rith Forum is organized in cooperation with the Center for Hebrew Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Bucharest. festival days Culture Sephardic , with the support of the Embassy of the State of Israel in Bucharest, the Jewish Communities Center (JCC) of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, the Menachem H. Elias Family Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture. The festival includes a wide range of activities dealing with the cultural heritage of Sephardic Jews, including musical performances, plays, lectures, and roundtable discussions.

PoC-HeV : This year, the University of Bucharest released A book entitled “Rights, Capabilities and Citizen-Making: Jewish Immigrants in Israel” by Adina Babish-Freshcher. The book focuses on citizenship behavior and the state’s interaction with the individual in creating new communities, with an emphasis on the immigrants’ capabilities and success in integrating into Israel. The book also provides a comprehensive analysis of how immigrants experienced and interacted with the social and political landscape in Israel in the late twentieth century.

PoC-HeV : On April 10, 2023, the Archaeological Sciences Platform of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest ( ICUB ), in collaboration with the Romanian National History Museum, organized Symposium “Debunkers, Rebels, and Devotees: Archaeological Finds from the Teomim Cave, Israel,” sponsored by Prof. Boaz Zisso, Professor at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. The symposium, held at the University of Bucharest, discussed archaeological research conducted in the Teomim Cave in Israel in 2009. This research revealed materials dating from various periods, from the Neolithic period through the Chalcolithic period to the Persian period, the Hellenistic period, the Roman period, the Byzantine period, the early Islamic period, and the Ottoman period. Over 120 intact oil lamps and fragments of lamps were found throughout the cave, except for the inner, inaccessible rooms, which contained a treasure trove of coins and other artifacts dating back to the Bar Kokhba revolt against the Romans (132-136 CE).

PoC-HeV : On November 20, 2022, it was held The two-day international conference for “Mentors” at the Mofet Institute in Israel, organized as part of the “Promentors” project, with the participation of nine Israeli universities and four European universities, including the University of Bucharest from Romania. The conference focused on the concept and characteristics of a learning community, with an emphasis on the planning and implementation processes of the first “incubator” at the Dror School for Grades 1-12, which resulted from a partnership between the college and the school. Participants also discussed the manifestations of entrepreneurial culture in various communities, its impact on interest groups, and its potential to enhance the role of partners. During a visit to a unique incubator at a high school in Jaffa, examples of internal partnerships that focus on the individual were presented.
